Shaft

Shafts can be constructed or repaired with geotechnical construction techniques. Cement grouting controls groundwater and prevents soils from raveling. Compaction grouting densifies soils that have been loosened due to shaft sinking, protecting nearby piers from movement or enabling microtunneling at inlets. Jet grouting constructs a shaft with connected soilcrete columns that act as a compression ring, and can also be used to construct shaft bottom seals. Polyurethane grouting permanently stops groundwater inflow at concrete joints. These are a few of the ways Hayward Baker has successfully employed specialty construction techniques to shaft projects.
